Thomas Sowell wrote this four years ago, just before the 2008 election. The “assessment of where we are” is, if anything, even grimmer.

Now that the two parties have finally selected their presidential candidates, it is time for a sober— if not grim— assessment of where we are.

Not since 1972 have we been presented with two such painfully inadequate candidates. When election day came that year, I could not bring myself to vote for either George McGovern or Richard Nixon. I stayed home.

This year, none of us has that luxury. While all sorts of gushing is going on in the media, and posturing is going on in politics, the biggest national sponsor of terrorism in the world— Iran— is moving step by step toward building a nuclear bomb.

The point when they get that bomb will be the point of no return. Iran’s nuclear bomb will be the terrorists’ nuclear bomb— and they can make 9/11 look like child’s play.

All the options that are on the table right now will be swept off the table forever. Our choices will be to give in to whatever the terrorists demand— however outrageous those demands might be— or to risk seeing American cities start disappearing in radioactive mushroom clouds.

All the things we are preoccupied with today, from the price of gasoline to health care to global warming, will suddenly no longer matter.

Just as the Nazis did not find it enough to simply kill people in their concentration camps, but had to humiliate and dehumanize them first, so we can expect terrorists with nuclear weapons to both humiliate us and force us to humiliate ourselves, before they finally start killing us.

They have already telegraphed their punches with their sadistic beheadings of innocent civilians, and with the popularity of videotapes of those beheadings in the Middle East.

They have already telegraphed their intention to dictate to us with such things as Osama bin Laden’s threats to target those places in America that did not vote the way he prescribed in the 2004 elections. He could not back up those threats then but he may be able to in a very few years.

The terrorists have given us as clear a picture of what they are all about as Adolf Hitler and the Nazis did during the 1930s— and our “leaders” and intelligentsia have ignored the warning signs as resolutely as the “leaders” and intelligentsia of the 1930s downplayed the dangers of Hitler.

We are much like people drifting down the Niagara River, oblivious to the waterfalls up ahead.

Once we go over those falls, we cannot come back up again.

What does this have to do with today’s presidential candidates? It has everything to do with them.

One of these candidates will determine what we are going to do to stop Iran from going nuclear— or whether we are going to do anything other than talk, as Western leaders talked in the 1930s.

There is one big difference between now and the 1930s. Although the West’s lack of military preparedness and its political irresolution led to three solid years of devastating losses to Nazi Germany and imperial Japan, nevertheless when all the West’s industrial and military forces were finally mobilized, the democracies were able to turn the tide and win decisively.

But you cannot lose a nuclear war for three years and then come back. You cannot even sustain the will to resist for three years when you are first broken down morally by threats and then devastated by nuclear bombs.

Our one window of opportunity to prevent this will occur within the term of whoever becomes President of the United States next January.

At a time like this, we do not have the luxury of waiting for our ideal candidate or of indulging our emotions by voting for some third party candidate to show our displeasure— at the cost of putting someone in the White House who is not up to the job.

Senator John McCain has been criticized in this column many times. But, when all is said and done, Senator McCain has not spent decades aiding and abetting people who hate America.

On the contrary, he has paid a huge price for resisting our enemies, even when they held him prisoner and tortured him. The choice between him and Barack Obama should be a no-brainer.

We should have listened to Sowell in 2008. God help us all if we don’t take him to heart in 2012!

It’s funny the things you can remember from the age of six. In those days doctors would come to your home and, though I was born in a hospital, Mom’s next three kids were delivered at home. One day the doctor came because one kid was sick and Mom was terribly worried.  Whatever the doctor  said or did seemed to make Mom much happier and when Mom was happy, I was happy. I remember kissing the doctor’s hand and he laughed and hoisted me into the air. Twice since then I have wanted to kiss a doctor’s hand, but didn’t have that six-year-old freedom from inhibition.

I guess Daddy couldn’t find another job in Detroit at that time so my parents packed the four of us up into our black Ford and headed for Lebanon, Pennsylvania, where Uncle George was the superintendent in a silk mill and had offered Daddy a job.

What else do I remember from 1929.  There was a big dog named Buck that I was afraid of.  I recognized a tomato plant that had grown from seed by its smell.  Mom taught me how to say the German alphabet and the prayer to my guardian angel.  I learned to sew on a treadle sewing machine.  All I remember about school is that we ran around in circles and I wondered why I never had to have a bowel movement in school.  (In our family we went tinkle and squeeze, not pee and poop!)

Who says six-year-olds  don’t have a life?  And that’s how it was, in 1929.

We have prayed twice a week outside our local abortuary, Medical Options, for over twenty years, following it from Mill Plain Road, to opposite the Police Department on Main Street, to a medical office building opposite Danbury Hospital.  Finally, about two years  ago, Medical Options packed up and closed down.    VICTORY!   We outlasted them!   But we’re still there, twice a week, praying.  Why bother?

For one thing, although the abortion “clinic” is gone, there are still two offices in the building where abortions are being performed.  One of them is headed by Kenneth Blau, M.D., who was the medical director of Medical Options and is well known in town because he does late term abortions.  For another thing, abortions are also performed at the hospital across the street.  For a third thing, there is much ado today about federal funding for abortions and the Obama mandate that organizations which cannot in good conscience provide abortions or abortifacients MUST do so or be fined large amounts.   Christians are rising up against this regulation of their ministries and see it as a violation of freedom of religion.   Yes, abortion is STILL on the front burner.  We feel we need to pray against it, demonstrate against it, and bring home the fact that however unseen it is still going on all around us.

So, we’re there with our signs and our prayers.   There is a good deal of traffic down the street and we get an occasional friendly toot, or sometimes a horn blast accompanied by a middle finger.  Yesterday was a typical day in that one man going into the building gave us a rather covert thumbs-up.  Another man blessed us for what we were doing.  Yet another older man said, “Hitler’s mother was pro-life.  How’s that working for you?”  He was not on our side.   A young lady, all abeam with the life within her, told us her baby was due in May and thanked us for praying for her baby.  Just before we left, a man from the insulated food truck in the parking lot came up to us with a warm muffin for each.  He caters to construction workers and said business is down as there are fewer jobs and those with jobs are “brown-bagging” it more.

Why bother?   Abortion likes darkness. We few praying here and the 500,000 people in the annual March for Life in DC and the annual Life Walk in Los Angeles are all trying to bring home the same thing: We are killing our sons and daughters. We are killing our next generation. Were it not for the influx of Mexicans and Muslims the United States would be a dying nation. Something is seriously amiss!   Abortion is a crime against the individual baby and a crime against humanity.    It is murder.   LOOK!

P.S.  Thinking of the man who told us that Hitler’s mother was pro-life, I am reminded of a post of mine several years ago about two babies that were born on the same day in Austria–one was Hitler and the other a Down’s syndrome baby.  It’s a lovely (and true) story.  Please read it.

When a friend handed me State of Fear by Michael Crichton I did not know what to expect. At 798 pages, the size of the book is daunting. I had never read such a big book in my life. Nor had I ever read a book by Michael Crichton though I knew he had written such NY Times best-sellers as The Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park.

It is apparent in the first chapter that Crichton knows a lot about science – the science behind  tsunamis, for one thing.  A seduction and murder in the first chapter draw one into this amazing web of intrigue, mystery, and action.  A forenote to the book states:

This is a work of fiction.  Characters, corporations, institutions and organizations in this novel are the product of the author’s imagination, or, if real, are used fictitiously without any intent to describe their actual conduction.  However, references to real people, institutions, and organizations that are documented in the footnotes are accurate.  Footnotes are real.

Because the book is so heavily laced with footnotes, as one reads this page-turner  one need not wonder if the “facts” that are sprinkled throughout are actually facts.   The sites range from Antarctica where the charactors fall into a crevasse, to the jungle, where they run into cannibals.   If you’re looking for action, here’s your book.   If you enjoy strange and interesting scientific tid-bits, here’s your book again.  If you’ve never read a book in which an octopus was a lethal weapon, come along!

Along the way I began to realize Crichton had a problem with global warming and on googling him learned that he is the “most famous global warming denier.”   Obligingly, at the end, he presents “the author’s message” for those who wonder where he stands on the issues addressed after all his research.   He tells  how much he enjoys being in nature.  “I wish natural environments to be preserved for future generations.  I am not satisfied they will be preserved in sufficient quantities or with sufficient skill.  I conclude that the  ‘exploiters of the environment’ include environmental organizations, government organizations, and big business.  All have equally dismal records.”

Crichton obtained an M.D. from Harvard in 1969.   His  biography on Wikipedia is fascinating.  He was a brilliant man, who enjoyed both  story-telling and technology, immensely successful as a writer whose books have been made into immensely successful films.  He died in 2008 of cancer, leaving some unfinished novels.

I enjoyed very much meeting Crichton (below)  and am glad he was so prolific while he lived.  In this video clip  Crichton explains why he did not want to write State of Fear, and why he did it anyway.

CBN News spoke with Houston’s godmother, Gospel singer Shirley Caesar.

Caesar said regardless of how Houston died, she was seeking to overcome her troubles through her faith.

“I know she had been in Houston, Texas, and I don’t know where else. She had met up with Kim Burrell, but they were together praising God, speaking in tongues, and giving God the glory,” Caesar told CBN News.

“She wasn’t there to try and put on heirs, to make somebody believe something. This girl was prostrate on the floor, on the floor crying out to God. Why? Because she wanted total deliverance and it’s only the Lord who will judge her to say as to whether or not she makes it in,” Ceasar said.  Read more.

I am not so old that I can’t become excited by a new idea! I’ve just read Earthing, which has the subtitle The most important health discovery ever?. It may be. Published in 2010, it is written by Clinton Ober,  Stephen Sinatra, M.D., and Martin Zucker.

In 1993 Clint Ober was a very successful businessman in the cable TV business when he became acutely ill with a liver infection which threatened his life and required removal of most of his liver. After a long recovery he realized that he had been owned by his possessions and decided to set himself free. “I want to do something different. Whatever time I have left I want to dedicate it to something worthwhile and with purpose.” He sold his house and business and drove around, looking for purpose. He asked for guidance. Words popped into his mind which he wrote down on a piece of paper: “Become an opposite charge.” The second thing he wrote was, “Status quo is the enemy.” It wasn’t until 1998 that it occurred to him that everyone was wearing shoes which insulated them from the earth. As a cable man he knew that electrical systems have to be grounded — and people were not.

Most people, even in this scientific age, are totally unaware of their bioelectrical nature. Practically no one has the slightest notion of an electrical or energetic connection between his or her body and the Earth. Nobody learns about it in school. So nobody knows that we have largely become disconnected and separated from the Earth.

We are  separated from the earth, which is a “brimming reservoir of energetic free electrons,” by our shoes, by plastic, wood, rubber, asphalt, and height.  We need the kind of skin contact with the earth that previous generations experienced daily.

Earthing remedies an electrical instbility and electron deficiency you never knew you were missing …or needed.

Ober’s research into human grounding yielded little.  As a  cable TV man, with no letters after his name or even a high school education, he could not interest scientists into doing a study.  Eventually cardiologist Stephen Sinatra took an interest in the subject.  Here is Dr. Sinatra:

Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the older woman, that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren’t good for the environment.

The woman apologized and explained, “We didn’t have this green thing back in my earlier days.”

The clerk responded, “That’s our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations.”

She was right — our generation didn’t have the green thing in its day.

Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles, and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled. But we didn’t have the green thing back in our day.

We walked up stairs, because we didn’t have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn’t climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks. But she was right. We didn’t have the green thing in our day.

Back then, we washed the baby’s diapers because we didn’t have the throw-away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts — wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that young lady is right; we didn’t have the green thing back in our day.

Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house — not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana . In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn’t have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn’t fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn’t need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she’s right; we didn’t have the green thing back then.

We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But we didn’t have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn’t need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 12,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint.

But isn’t it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn’t have the green thing back then?

Last November I went to my dermatologist for micrographic Mohs surgery for a skin cancer on my face and there are two posts about that experience, here and here.   Last week I went again to have a second squamous cell cancer removed from the left side of my nose and came home looking like this.    This is a lot of bandage for an itty-bitty wound but it seems to be necessary for facial surgeries which tend to bleed and need a pressure bandage for the first day.  The next day it was off and a little band-aid was sufficient to cover the wound.  Don’t let this scare you.  The stitches were removed on day 7.   Today, ten days later, I am walking around without a bandage and you would hardly notice I had been under THE KNIFE.

I have to admit I was afraid before the first surgery but feel like I’m an old hand at it now.  What’s to be afraid of?  Once the area is numbed with anesthetic (using such a tiny needle) you feel nothing whatever during the cutting and the stitching and the bandaging.  I needed one Tylenol at bedtime for some local aching but that was that.

When you walk around looking like this you’d be surprised how many people can relate.  One old geezer (only 84) told me he’d had three such surgeries and you’d never know it to look at him.  Everyone has had a least one such experience or knows someone who had it.   Mohs facial micirographic surgery is going around nowadays.   Ten years ago you never heard of it.

It is about 5:30 AM.   As I write this post I am also getting dressed, cooking bacon and eggs for breakfast,  and watching Fox News for the results on last night’s Nevada event.  See you later when I’m a little bit more focused.

The Susan G.Komen/Planned Parenthood hullaballoo has come and gone.  Komen decided to defund PP.  PP said “How dare you” and the mainstream media went all out to support their most famous abortion provider.   Barbara Curtis, my favorite blogger, has a good round up of the flak.  I won’t belabor the subject any further, only to say that Komen has a right to send their millions to people who actually do something to reduce breast cancer.   But the media backlash was awesome to behold!

When Judge Michael Malihi of Atlanta, Georgia, subpoenaed President Barack Obama to attend a hearing on January 26 regarding his eligibility to be on the Georgia ballot for the upcoming presidential election, I surely expected lots of media coverage. It has been claimed that Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and therefore not eligible for candidacy.

What happened?

At the time, I had just witnessed an historic hearing that actually discussed the eligibility of the sitting president of the United States to run for a second term. The president had been subpoenaed to appear, and instead of his attorney respectfully following protocol to have that subpoena recalled, both Obama and his attorney, Michael Jablonski, simply failed to show up at all or offer any defense whatsoever.

As Attorney Inon of the Liberty Legal Foundation pointed out:  “Yesterday President Obama completely ignored a court subpoena, and the world shrugged.”

OBAMA ELIGIBILITY COURT CASE.BLOW BY BLOW (testimony given)

Given the testimony from today’s court case in Georgia , Obama has a lot of explaining to do. His attorney, Jablonski, was a NO SHOW as of course, was Obama.

The following is a nutshell account of the proceedings.

Promptly at 9am  EST, all attorneys involved in the Obama Georgia eligibility case were called to the Judge’s chambers. This was indeed a very interesting beginning to this long awaited and important case.

The case revolved around the Natural Born clause of the Constitution and whether or not Obama qualifies under it to serve. More to the point, if found ineligible, Obama’s name would not appear on the 2012 ballot in Georgia .

With the small courtroom crowded, several in attendance could be seen fanning themselves with pamphlets as they waited for the return of the attorneys and the appearance of the judge.

Obama himself, who had been subpoenaed to appear, of course was nowhere near Georgia . Instead, Obama was on a campaign swing appearing in Las Vegas and in Colorado ignoring the court in Georgia .

Over the last several weeks, Obama’s attorney, Michael Jablonski, had attempted several tactics to keep this case from moving forward. He first tried to have it dismissed, then argued that it was irrelevant to Obama. After that, Jablonski argued that a state could not, under the law, determine who would or would not be on a ballot and later, that Obama was simply too busy with the duties of office to appear.

After all these arguments were dispatched by the Georgia Court, Jablonski, in desperation, wrote to the Georgia Secretary of State attempting to place Obama above the law and declared that the case was not to he heard and neither he nor his client would participate.

Secretary of State, Brian Kemp, fired back a letter hours later telling Jablonski he was free to abandon the case and not participate but that he would do so at his and his clients peril.

Game on.
5 minutes.
10 minutes.
15 minutes with the attorneys in the judge’s chambers.
20 minutes.

It appears Jablonski is not in attendance as the attorneys return, all go to the plaintiff table 24 minutes after meeting in the judge’s chambers.

Has Obama’s attorney made good on his stated threat not to participate? Is he directly ignoring the court’s subpoena? Is he placing Obama above the law? It seems so. Were you or I subpoenaed to appear in court, would we or our attorney be allowed such action or, non action?

Certainly not.

Court is called to order.

Obama’s birth certificate is entered into evidence.

Obama’s father’s place of birth, Kenya East Africa is entered into evidence.

Pages 214 and 215 from Obama’s book, “Dreams from My Father” entered into evidence. Highlighted. This is where Obama indicates that, in 1966 or 1967 that his father’s history is mentioned. It states that his father’s passport had been revoked and he was unable to leave Kenya .

Immigration Services documents entered into evidence regarding Obama Sr.

June 27th, 1962, is the date on those documents. Obama’s father’s status shown as a non citizen of the United States . Documents were gotten through the Freedom of Information Act.

Testimony regarding the definition of Natural Born Citizen is given citing Minor vs Happersett opinion from a Supreme Court written opinion from 1875. The attorney points out the difference between “citizen” and “Natural Born Citizen” using charts and copies of the Minor vs Happersett opinion.

It is also pointed out that the 14th Amendment does not alter the definition or supersede the meaning of Natural Born. It is pointed out that lower court rulings do not conflict with the Supreme Court opinion nor do they over rule the Supreme Court Minor vs Happersett opinion.

The point is, to be a natural born citizen, one must have 2 parents who, at the time of the birth in question, be citizens of the United States . As Obama’s father was not a citizen, the argument is that Obama, constitutionally, is ineligible to serve as President.

Judge notes that as Obama nor his attorney is present, action will be taken accordingly.

Carl Swinson takes the stand.

Testimony is presented that the SOS has agreed to hear this case, laws applicable, and that the DNC of Georgia will be on the ballot and the challenge to it by Swinson.

2nd witness, a Mr. Powell, takes the stand and presents testimony regarding documents of challenge to Obama’s appearance on the Georgia ballot and his candidacy.

Court records of Obama’s mother and father entered into evidence.

Official certificate of nomination of Obama entered into evidence.

RNC certificate of nomination entered into evidence.

DNC language does NOT include language stating Obama is Qualified while the RNC document DOES. This shows a direct difference trying to establish that the DNC MAY possibly have known that Obama was not qualified.

Jablonski letter to Kemp yesterday entered into evidence showing their desire that these proceedings not take place and that they would not participate.

Dreams From My Father entered.

Disc received from Immigration and Naturalization Service entered into evidence. This disc contains information regarding the status of Obama’s father received through the Freedom of Information Act.

This information states clearly that Obama’s father was NEVER a U.S. Citizen.

At this point, the judge takes a recess.

David Farrar takes the stand.

Evidence showing Obama’s book of records listing his nationality as Indoneasan. Deemed not relevant by the judge.

Orly Taitz calls 2nd witness. Mr. Strump.

Enters into evidence a portion of letter received from attorney showing a renewal form from Obama’s mother for her passport listing Obama’s last name something other than Obama.

State Licensed PI takes the stand.

She was hired to look into Obama’s background and found a Social Security number for him from 1979. Professional opinion given was that this number was fraudulent. The number used or attached to Obama in 1979, shows that Obama was born in the 1890. This shows that the number was originally assigned to someone else who was indeed born in 1890 and should never have been used by Obama.

Same SS number came up with addresses in IL, D.C. and MA.

Next witness takes the stand.

This witness is an expert in information technology and photo shop. He testifies that the birth certificate Obama provided to the public is layered, multiple layered. This, he testifies, indicates that different parts of the certificate have been lifted from more than one original document.

Linda Jordan takes the stand.

Document entered regarding SS number assigned to Obama. SS number is not verified under E Verify. It comes back as suspected fraudulent. This is the system by which the Government verifies ones citizenship.

Next witness.

Mr. Gogt.

Expert in document imaging and scanners for 18 years.

Mr. Gogt testifies that the birth certificate, posted online by Obama, is suspicious. States white lines around all the type face is caused by “unsharp mask” in Photoshop. Testifies that any document showing this, is considered to be a fraud.

States this is a product of layering.

Mr. Gogt testifies that a straight scan of an original document would not show such layering.

Also testifies that the date stamps shown on Obama documents should not be in exact same place on various documents as they are hand stamped. Obama’s documents are all even, straight and exactly the same indicating they were NOT hand stamped but layered into the document by computer.

Next witness, Mr. Sampson a former police officer and former immigration officer specializing in immigration fraud.

Ran Obama’s SS number through database and found that the number was issued to Obama in 1977 in the state of MA. Obama never resided in MA. At the time of issue, Obama was living in Hawaii .

Serial number on birth certificate is out of sequence with others issued at that hospital. Also certification is different than others and different than twins born 24 hours ahead of Obama.

Mr. Sampson also states that portion of documents regarding Mr. Sotoroe, who adopted Obama have been redated which is highly unusual with regards to immigration records.

Suggests all records from Social Security, Immigration and Hawaii birth records be made available to see if there are criminal charges to be filed. Without them, nothing can be ruled out.

Mr. Sampson indicates if Obama is shown not to be a citizen, he should be arrested and deported. Until all records are released nobody can know for sure if he is or is not a U.S. Citizen.

What can we take away from this?

It’s interesting.

Now, all of this has finally been entered OFFICIALLY into court records.

One huge question is now more than ever before, unanswered.

WHO THE HELL IS THIS GUY?

Without his attorney present, Obama’s identity, his Social Security number, his citizenship status, and his past are all OFFICIALLY in question.

One thing to which there seems no doubt. He does NOT qualify, under the definition of Natural Born Citizen” provided by SCOTUS opinions, to be eligible to serve as President.

What will the judge decide? That is yet to be known, but it seems nearly impossible to believe, without counter testimony or evidence, because Obama and his attorney chose not to participate, that Obama will be allowed on the Georgia ballot.

It also opens the door for such cases pending or to be brought in other states as well.

Obama is in it deep and the DNC has a LOT of explaining to do unless they start looking for a new candidate for 2012.
