Dear Sasha and Malia,

Thus begins President Barack Obama’s letter to his daughters, published in Parade Magazine on January 18, 2009.   He continues as follows:

When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me—about how I’d make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my big plans for myself didn’t seem so important anymore. I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realized that my own life wouldn’t count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours. In the end, girls, that’s why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation.

The title of Obama’s letter is What I Want For You – and Every Child in America. He says, “I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That’s why I’ve taken our family on this great adventure.”   He wants them to be able to attend good schools, get good jobs, have good health care.  He tells them in his letter about how his grandmother talked about the Declaration of Independence and about the people years ago who had marched for equality.   Does he not realize that the first equality that is necessary before any other becomes possible is an equal right to life?  Should he not, as an avowed Christian,  respect not only the right to life but the commandment: Thou shalt not kill?

It was that same Barack Obama – now our  “abortion president” – who once said: “ I’ve got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.”  Appallingly, what President Obama implies is that should one of his daughters make a “mistake” and become pregnant, he would be party, either by consent or by act, to the killing of his unborn grandchild!

Abraham Lincoln, who Obama pretends to model himself after, freed the slaves with his Emancipation Proclamation.  Mr. Obama, however, with his repeal of the Mexico City Policy and his intent to sign a Freedom of Choice Act which will undo all the pro-life gains since 1973 is destined to condemn an unprecedented number of unborn babies to death world-wide  He intends to fund groups (with our money) that promote abortion on demand and use abortion for population control  — how un-Lincolnesque!

We came, 300,000 thousand of us, to Obama’s doorstep in Washington, D.C. on January 22 and he totally ignored us.  He could at least have said ‘hello’.  President Bush always did.  We went, 30,000 of us to  San Francisco to march for the lives of the babies.   Who cares?  Ignore them, and maybe they’ll go away. I don’t think so.

Mr. Obama, your daughters are watching.   What are you teaching them?  That they are precious but other babies are disposable like so many Kleenexes?  Their daddy could have freed babies as Lincoln freed the slaves – given them civil rights as human beings made in the image of God.  He is choosing not to.

Father Benedict Groeschel said so succinctly just yesterday:  “We did not declare war on Obama.  Obama declared war on us.”

I have a deep, deep sadness about Barack Obama’s election for it means that any progress that has been made over the past 35 years in protecting the lives of the unborn will be entirely wiped out.  See his promise to Planned Parenthood.  Some say he moved away from this stand toward the end of the campaign but obviously he was serious and the liberals will see that he keeps his promise when he said  “the first thing I’d do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act.”  This  man was he only Senator who voted against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.

Goodbye to the requirement to notify parents that their kid is having an abortion.  Goodbye to requiring that the mother be informed about fetal development or shown an ultrasound.  Goodbye to limits based on the viability of the baby.   The FOCA would overturn  over three hundred local, state, and federal abortion restriction laws, including the Partial Birth Abortion Ban.

The Freedom of Choice Act (H.R. 3719/S. 2020) is a bill in the United States Congress which, if enacted, would abolish all restrictions and limitations on the right of women in the United States to have an abortion, whether at the State or Federal level.

It also has a retroactive effect in that it says: “This Act applies to every Federal, State and local statute, ordinance, regulation, administrative order, decision, policy, practice, or other action enacted, adopted, or implemented before, on, or after the date of enactment of this Act.”

What could possibly be more overreaching than that?  OPEN SEASON ON UNBORN BABIES COMING UP once Obama is sworn in.

The election process and the result is a testimony to the great openness of  the United States which has been, and always will be, its great strength, but I share the terrible foreboding expressed in some of the other postings.  No-one who has promised to unleash the ‘war’ on the unborn that this man has promised can seriously appeal for unity. As with slavery, there is no middle ground.

Enough crying in my beer.  One good thing happened on election day.  Marriage has survived in another three states!   With the addition of Florida, Arizona and California, a total of 30 states have now amended their constitutions to protect the sanctity of marriage.

Marriage has always been and should continue to be a union between a man and a women.  Other unions may be for bonding, but only marriage is a union designed for bonding and babies.  We all know what the marital act is – and only a man and a woman can perform it.  Without it a marriage is not consummated.  If two men want to perform anal sex, fist, or urinate on each other, whatever else you might call it, it’s not sexual intercourse.  Two women can “pleasure” each other in bed but let’s not call it intercourse.  If they want a legal arrangement, its easily available.  Let’s keep marriage something special and not change its very raison d’etre.

Obama has threatened to repeal the Federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).  As a Senator he wrote:   While the repeal of DOMA is essential, the unfortunate truth is that it is unlikely with Mr. Bush in the White House and Republicans in control of both chambers of Congress.  Of course.   They don’t come any more liberal than Barack Obama.

Fortunately, the vast majority of Americans favor protecting marriage.  Barack Obama does not (yet) have a free hand to “transform this nation” to his liking.

It was two weeks before the election and Archbishop Charles Chaput in Colorado had publicly stated that “activism for Senator Barack Obama, and the work of Democratic-friendly groups like Catholics United and Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, have done a disservice to the Church, confused the natural priorities of Catholic social teaching, undermined the progress pro-lifers have made, and provided an excuse for some Catholics to abandon the abortion issue instead of fighting within their parties and at the ballot box to protect the unborn.”

My friend, Kay, had visited a church in another city the previous Sunday and had heard the Catholic priest there, after the mass, tell his parishioners from the altar that the Church cannot tell them how to vote, that they could decide for themselves who they would vote for. He was heartily applauded by his congregation. Kay was considerably upset as he was, indeed, doing his best to undermine everything pro-life that had been accomplished in the past 35 years.
